Multicultural Tradition Paintings

In this unit, students will use paint to show an important family tradition. Students will learn from one another and develop an awareness of cultures in our community. Students make connections amongst cultures furthering students' social emotional skills of empathy, inclusion, and belonging. They will look at how contemporary artists around the world represent their traditions through art and will therefore gain a greater awareness of religions and traditions globally.  Throughout the unit, students will learn important painting skills and techniques such as mixing and matching colors, skin tones, as well as visually representing the important people and places in their lives.  At the end of the unit, students will be invited to share their paintings with their classmates and learn from one another.
